ASPO-USA Conference: Experts to seek “truth in energy”, find solutions to end of cheap oil

Washington DC – Experts on energy and the economy will gather on Capitol Hill, November 2-5, to confront the global challenge of resource depletion, Peak Oil, and the end of cheap energy—with a focus on economic implications and strategies to navigate an uncertain and rapidly changing future.

Peak Oil, Energy & the Economy, the 2011 conference of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & Gas USA (ASPO-USA), will feature cutting edge research and analysis by leading experts from North America and Europe. Under the theme of “Truth in Energy”, the event will take a hard look at America's energy and economic challenges, and the actions required to tackle them.

As global demand for energy continues to rise, particularly with the rapid emergence of China and other developing countries, mounting evidence indicates that world energy supplies will be hard-pressed to keep pace. The problem is most immediate for petroleum. As production from existing oilfields drops off, and development of new sources faces increasing hurdles, oil supply appears to be at or near a permanent peak, to be followed by an irreversible decline.

“The economic, social, political, and environmental implications of 'Peak Oil' are likely to be massive and far-reaching—and may be already evident in the current global economic crisis,” said Jan Mueller, ASPO-USA's Executive Director. “The conference will provide businesses, communities, policymakers, and citizens with the tools they need to adapt and thrive in a new energy reality.”

The ASPO conference a great place to learn the latest thinking about peak oil and related issues. It is small enough so you can network and meet prominent peak oil thinkers.

I'm told that this conference will feature some speakers and sessions with the grassroots point of view. If you are active in Transition or other grassroots organizations, the conference and you haven't come earlier conferences, you might consider it. The wealth of knowledge is impressive.
